Getting started
6 questionsWhat is Research Consultancy (RC)?
RC trains and mentors medical students and doctors to design studies, analyze data and publish in PubMed-indexed journals. Our mentors are physician-scientists based at leading U.S. institutions.
Who is RC for?
Medical and dental students, recent graduates, international medical graduates (IMGs) and early-career clinicians who want to start or grow their research.
Do I need prior research experience?
No. Level 1 and the Meta-Analysis Masterclass both start from the basics, so complete beginners can follow every step.
Where should I start?
Most students begin with Level 1. If you already understand basic statistics and study design, you can go straight to an advanced workshop like the Meta-Analysis Masterclass.
How long has RC been running?
Since 2016. We began in Karachi and have since mentored 8,000+ students, whose work has led to 1,000+ publications.
Is RC connected to RCOP?
Yes. RCOP (Research Council of Pakistan) is our sister organization. It runs the same programs for students in Pakistan, with local pricing.
Classes & format
7 questionsWhich classes do you offer?
Level 1, the Meta-Analysis Masterclass, CDC WONDER, National Inpatient Sample (NIS), Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) and the 12-month Match Mentorship program.
Are classes live or recorded?
Classes are taught live on Zoom, with Q&A throughout.
How long is each class?
Level 1 and the Meta-Analysis Masterclass each run over two days, about six hours per day.
What time zone are classes in?
Class times are listed in U.S. Central Time (CST). Each class page also shows the time in your own time zone.
What software will I use?
Level 1 covers SPSS. Advanced workshops use meta-analysis software and the relevant national databases. Mentors help you set everything up live.
Can I take more than one class?
Yes. Many students take Level 1 first and then one or more advanced workshops. Match Mentorship includes unlimited access to our workshops.
How big are the classes?
Seats are limited for every cohort. Match Mentorship is capped at 20 students.
Meta-Analysis Masterclass
5 questionsWhen is the next Meta-Analysis Masterclass?
November 14–15, 2026, from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM U.S. Central Time each day, live on Zoom.
How much does it cost?
$99, paid once.
What does the masterclass cover?
Statistics fundamentals, effect measures, study design, searching and screening with PRISMA, data extraction, software setup, pooling and forest plots, heterogeneity and bias, and writing up for publication.
What happens after the two days?
Every student is paired with a mentor and assigned a real meta-analysis project, with guidance through to a manuscript ready for submission.
Who teaches it?
Dr. Shahzeb Khan, Dr. Kaneez Fatima, Dr. Shariq Usman and Dr. Tariq Siddiqi, U.S.-based physician-scientists with hundreds of publications between them.
Level 1
4 questionsWhen is the next Level 1?
Dates for the next cohort will be announced soon. Join the waitlist to hear first.
How much does Level 1 cost?
$50 for the two-day workshop.
What will I learn?
Research fundamentals, how to start writing articles, a step-by-step approach to publishing, USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 guidance, and hands-on SPSS.
Does Level 1 include a mentored project?
Mentored projects come with our advanced workshops. Level 1 gives you the foundation to join them.
Match Mentorship
6 questionsWhat is Match Mentorship?
A 12-month program for the 2026–2027 Residency Match that combines research, application support and mentorship from U.S.-based faculty.
How much does it cost?
$750, paid once.
What's included?
Involvement in at least two research papers, an international conference abstract, all workshops, CV and personal statement edits, mock interviews, U.S. letters of recommendation for highly productive mentees, 24/7 WhatsApp mentorship and Match strategy guidance.
How many seats are there?
20 per cohort, first come, first served.
What was the match rate?
90% of mentees matched in the 2024–25 cycle.
Who is eligible?
International medical graduates and U.S. medical students applying in the 2026–2027 Residency Match.
Mentorship & publications
7 questionsIs publication guaranteed?
No. Publication is the goal and we mentor you all the way to submission, but acceptance is always the journal's decision.
How is authorship decided?
Authorship follows ICMJE criteria and depends on your meaningful contribution to the project.
Where have RC students published?
Mentees have published in PubMed-indexed journals, including high-impact publications in journals like JACC, Circulation, JAMA, The Lancet, the European Heart Journal, the European Journal of Heart Failure and many more.
Will I present at conferences?
Match Mentorship includes at least one international conference abstract. Other mentees have presented at meetings such as ACC, AHA, ACG, ASCO and AAN.
How long does a project take?
It depends on the project and the journal. Your mentor will set realistic milestones with you.
Can research help my Residency Match?
Research is one of the few parts of an application you can still build. Publications, abstracts and mentor relationships all strengthen a Match application.
Can RC help with U.S. research positions?
More than 20 of our students have secured postdoctoral research positions at U.S. institutions through our mentorship and network.
